Chelsea Suffer Another Setback Against Brighton

Chelsea’s inconsistency in the English Premier league and other cup fixtures seems to be taking a toll on Enzo Mareska amidst injuries that is gradually degrading his squad.

Enzo Mareska whose comment about winning any laurels with the club in the early days has been subtile still looks eager to get to the top and maintain a study momentum which seems to be tinted time and again.

The ELC cup which saw Brighton hosting Chelsea at the American Express Community Stadium was going to be another tough one for the Blues and that is exactly what Mareska and his men witnessed.

The Blues who have been tipped to improve over time seem to be making the same errors which exposes their weakness against teams with lots of pace including the shot stopper who seems to be out of place on many occasions.

The game which started fairly in the favour of Chelsea took a quick turn just as in the premier league game against Manchester City. Chelsea have had series of games handed to them on the silver platter yet their inconsistency sees them hand it right back to the opposition team.

Verbruggen who saw Chelsea’s struggle to score decided to allow a lose one in following a cross from Chelsea’s star man Cole Palmer. Chelsea who could have capitalised on this 5th minute goal started to play sluggishly and it cost the dearly.

Georginio Rutter who has been on the hunt for goals lately showcased why it is very dangerous to leave him unmarked. A lose ball in the deep half of the Chelsea goal area fell to Danny Welbeck who controlled it well before handing it over to Veltman who latched in a sweet cross outside the box for Rutter to connect to give Brighton the equaliser.

Chelsea tried to get into the game with a more pressing approach but Brighton took none of that as they saw the first half end with a goal a piece.

The second half started with Brighton taking charge of affair and looked more ready to take the game to Chelsea and their effort pain off in the 57th minute as Rutter who scored the equaliser lofted the ball over the Chelsea defence following a run made by Kaoru Mitoma who placed it past Robert Sánchez to give Brighton their second for the day.

The planned comeback for Chelsea did not work as Brighton ensured they defended and countered appropriately.

Brighton saw the match end with their 2-1 win over Chelsea to secure them a spot in the next round of the EFL cup as Chelsea goes back to the drawing board to find solutions.
