Liverpool Seal £69m Deal to Sign Striker Hugo Ekitike

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth an initial £69 million, pending international clearance.

The 23-year-old passed his medical and agreed personal terms earlier this week. He is expected to join Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia later this week.

The agreement between Liverpool and Frankfurt is valued at £79 million in total, with £69 million guaranteed and a potential £10 million in performance-based add-ons.

Ekitike’s arrival continues a busy and expensive summer for the Reds, whose total spending now exceeds £250 million. The club recently secured the services of German star Florian Wirtz for a potential British record fee of £116 million, and bolstered their defence with the signings of Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for a combined £70 million.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Ekitike intensified after their interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak cooled. Interestingly, Newcastle had a £70 million bid for Ekitike rejected earlier this month, paving the way for Liverpool to secure the forward.

Ekitike enjoyed a standout campaign last season, scoring 15 goals in 31 starts and contributing eight assists as Frankfurt finished third in the Bundesliga. He also led the German top flight with 117 shots on goal, underlining his attacking threat.

Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche praised the player’s contributions, stating:

“Hugo has developed tremendously in his one and a half years with us and has been a true asset to our team and the entire club, both on and off the pitch.
We are delighted that he can now take the next step – a step he has earned through his performances with us.”

Ekitike becomes one of the most expensive signings in Liverpool’s history and is expected to add depth, dynamism, and a clinical edge to Jurgen Klopp’s forward line ahead of the 2025–26 season.
