Sulemana: My Focus Is Now on Goals, Not Just Flair

Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana says he’s determined to evolve into a more complete player by adding goals and assists to his game—an area he admits has fallen short despite his evident talent.

The 23-year-old Southampton forward has often dazzled fans with his pace and flair, but he’s also faced mounting criticism for a lack of tangible output in the final third. Injuries have played a major role in disrupting his momentum over the past three years, but Kamaldeen isn’t making excuses.

In a candid interview with ShowMax, the former FC Nordsjaelland star opened up about the pressure to deliver more and how legendary players like Jay-Jay Okocha and Ronaldinho have shaped his vision of the game.

“Ronaldinho and Jay-Jay made people smile; they made people enjoy watching football,” he said. “That’s what I want to do as well—but I also want to back it up with goals and assists. That’s the only thing missing from my game. I’m pushing and working hard to add that.”

Kamaldeen’s words come on the back of a tough weekend for Southampton, who were officially relegated from the Premier League after a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. It marks the second relegation of his career—a bitter pill for a player still brimming with potential.

Still, Kamaldeen remains optimistic and focused on the future. He believes his best football is yet to come and is committed to transforming himself from a fan favorite with flair into a consistent game-changer on the scoresheet.

“I don’t only want to be an entertainer, but rather a complete player,” he affirmed.

With the right mindset and the continued inspiration of his footballing idols, Kamaldeen looks ready to face the next chapter with renewed hunger and determination.
