Tanzania’s U-15 boys successfully defended their CAF African Schools Football Championship crown after edging past Senegal in a tense final decided by penalties.

The highly competitive encounter ended in a stalemate after regulation time, with both sides displaying discipline, resilience, and tactical awareness in a closely fought contest. With neither team able to find a breakthrough, the championship was ultimately settled from the spot.

Tanzania held their nerve during the shootout, converting their penalties with composure to secure victory and retain the continental title, sparking jubilant celebrations among players and officials.

Senegal pushed hard throughout the match and created several promising opportunities but were unable to break down a well-organized Tanzanian defence. Tanzania, in turn, showed maturity beyond their years, managing the game effectively and remaining composed under pressure.

The penalty shootout highlighted Tanzania’s calmness and preparation, as their goalkeeper played a crucial role, making decisive saves to tilt the contest in their favour.

The victory confirms Tanzania’s growing strength in youth football and underscores the country’s effective grassroots development programmes. Retaining the title also marks a significant achievement, as it demonstrates consistency and dominance at the schools football level.

For Senegal, the narrow defeat was a painful one, but their performance throughout the tournament earned widespread admiration, reflecting their strong footballing culture and commitment to youth development.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship continues to serve as an important platform for nurturing young talent across the continent, and Tanzania’s triumph stands as a testament to the rewards of sustained investment in grassroots football.
