Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey, has heaped praise on Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, for his instrumental role in Ghana’s recent victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars ended a six-game winless streak in emphatic fashion, thrashing Chad 5-0 in Accra on Friday before securing another dominant 3-0 victory over Madagascar in Morocco on Monday. The win against Chad marked the end of a nine-month drought, revitalizing Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes.
Despite Comoros’ win over Chad on Tuesday night cutting Ghana’s lead at the top of Group I to three points, the Black Stars remain in a strong position with four matches left to play. Impressively, the team has now equaled its total number of victories from 2024 in just two matches.
Turnaround in Form Attributed to Strong Leadership
Ghana’s recent resurgence has been credited to multiple factors, including the restructuring of the Black Stars’ management team, led by Dr. Randy Abbey as Chairman and former captain Stephen Appiah as Vice Chairman.
Speaking to 3Sports, Dr. Abbey highlighted the crucial role played by Minister Kofi Adams in ensuring the team’s success.
“He Was Very, Very Instrumental”
Dr. Abbey emphasized the immense effort put in by the Sports Minister behind the scenes to ensure smooth preparations for the qualifiers.
“He was very, very instrumental,” Abbey stated. “If you knew what he went through to make sure the stadium was ready and that all the team’s needs were met—it was incredible. There was a day I was with him until 2 AM, just to make sure everything was in place.”
According to Abbey, Adams went above and beyond his ministerial duties, working tirelessly to provide everything necessary for the Black Stars’ success.
“He did everything a minister should do, and even things beyond the ordinary, to ensure everything went smoothly,” Abbey added.
Looking Ahead
With Ghana’s qualification hopes looking bright, Abbey expressed gratitude for Adams’ dedication and reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration.
“I’d like to thank him for what he has done for the team, and I hope we’ll continue working together to achieve greater success for Ghanaian football.”
As the Black Stars prepare for the remaining qualifiers, the focus will be on maintaining their momentum and securing a place in the 2026 World Cup.
