Dortmund Confirm Agreement Reached with Chelsea for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Transfer

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens after the German club confirmed a deal has been agreed between the two sides.

The 20-year-old England Under-21 international is set to join the Blues in a transfer worth £48.5 million, with an additional £3.5 million in performance-related add-ons. The deal was struck during face-to-face talks in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where both clubs are currently based for the FIFA Club World Cup.

While final contract details are still being ironed out, BBC Sport has previously reported that Bynoe-Gittens agreed to a seven-year contract with Chelsea back in June.

Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, acknowledged the significance of the transfer in a club statement, saying:
“The talks with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we are pleased that we can most likely realise our financial ambitions and gain planning security. Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of joy. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success.”

Bynoe-Gittens joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and has since developed into one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young talents. Across 107 appearances, he scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists, becoming a regular feature in the team despite his young age.

Although the transfer is nearing completion, the winger will not be eligible to feature for Chelsea until after the Club World Cup. Chelsea are set to begin their campaign this weekend, while Bynoe-Gittens will remain with Dortmund until the tournament concludes.

The signing marks another addition to Chelsea’s busy summer transfer window under new manager Enzo Maresca. The Blues have already secured the signatures of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Sporting Lisbon midfielder Dario Essugo, and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.

Brazilian prodigy Estevao Willian is also expected to join Chelsea after his Club World Cup duties with Palmeiras, a side that could potentially face the Blues in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

With Bynoe-Gittens poised to become the latest high-profile addition, Chelsea’s rebuild under Maresca is gathering serious momentum ahead of the new Premier League season.
