Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international, Thomas Partey, has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police. The charges relate to alleged offences that took place between 2021 and 2022 and involve three different women.

Breakdown of the Charges

  • Two counts of rape involve the first woman.
  • Three counts of rape involve a second woman.
  • One count of sexual assault involves a third woman.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges following a detailed investigation by detectives. The investigation began in February 2022, when police first received a report of rape.

Thomas Partey, aged 32 (born 13 June 1992) and residing in Hertfordshire, has been issued a charge and requisition notice to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

Police Statement

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the investigation, emphasized that support for the victims remains a top priority. He urged anyone affected by this case, or anyone with relevant information, to contact the investigation team directly at CIT@met.police.uk.

Support Services

Victims of sexual abuse or anyone seeking help are encouraged to reach out to Rape Crisis, an independent charity offering 24/7 support via the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.

Partey’s Contract with Arsenal

This development comes shortly after Partey’s contract with Arsenal Football Club officially ended on Monday. He had been with the Premier League team since 2020. The BBC reports that attempts have been made to contact Arsenal for comment.

Legal Reminder

Editors, journalists, and social media users are reminded to report responsibly, especially in light of legal restrictions under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. Guidance from the Attorney General’s Office recommends seeking legal advice to ensure compliance with laws that protect the integrity of ongoing legal proceedings.
