Kwasi Sibo Confident Black Stars Can Achieve Big Things at 2026 World Cup

Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo says he is confident Ghana can make a major impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the current squad has the talent, unity, and determination to go far in the tournament.

Ghana booked their ticket to the global showpiece for the fifth time after finishing top of Group I in the African qualifiers with 25 points.

The West Africans’ best-ever run at the World Cup came in 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals before suffering a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Uruguay. However, the Black Stars have failed to advance past the group stage in their last two appearances.

Sibo, who plays for Real Oviedo in Spain, believes the story will be different this time.

“This team can really achieve big things at the World Cup,” he told JoySports.
“The players I’ve trained with are doing well at their various clubs in Europe. This team is more united, and when a team is united, it’s really hard to beat. We’re all together, making jokes, and that makes a team really strong.”

The 27-year-old midfielder was a late addition to the squad during the September international break, replacing Elisha Owusu (suspended) and Ibrahim Sulemana (injured). Since then, he has established himself as a reliable option in midfield, forming a strong partnership with Thomas Partey as Ghana secured back-to-back wins over the Central African Republic and Comoros in the final round of qualifiers.

Sibo now hopes to retain his place in the squad for Ghana’s Asian tour in November, where the Black Stars are set to face Japan and South Korea as part of their preparations for next year’s World Cup.

“It would mean a lot to be part of the team for the friendlies and to keep building chemistry before the World Cup,” he added.
