Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called on Ghanaian journalists to maintain the highest standards of professionalism as they prepare to cover the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking during a media engagement programme organized by the U.S. Embassy, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and American Corner Kumasi, Asante Twum stressed that the global tournament presents a significant platform for Ghanaian journalists to demonstrate their competence and credibility on the international stage.

He emphasized that covering a tournament of such magnitude requires more than routine reporting. According to him, journalists must prioritize accuracy, uphold ethical standards, and produce compelling content that reflects professionalism and integrity.

Asante Twum further encouraged media practitioners to familiarize themselves with FIFA’s media regulations and operational guidelines to ensure a smooth working experience during the competition.

He noted that a strong understanding of these protocols will help journalists avoid unnecessary setbacks.

Highlighting the importance of responsible storytelling, he cautioned against sensationalism and urged journalists to strike a balance between creativity and factual reporting.

He added that credibility remains one of the most valuable assets for any journalist, especially on the global stage.

Beyond reporting, he reminded journalists of their role in shaping Ghana’s image internationally. He noted that their work during the World Cup will not only reflect their individual capabilities but also influence how Ghanaian media is perceived worldwide.

Representing the U.S. Embassy at the event, Acting Public Affairs Officer Mr. Matthew Asada underscored the importance of partnerships that promote media development and professional excellence.

As preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continue, Asante Twum encouraged journalists to take advantage of training opportunities and continuously improve their skills. He concluded by urging them to remain disciplined, ethical, and committed to excellence in their coverage.
