Assistant coach of the Ghana national football team, Roger De Sá, has expressed confidence in Ghana’s restructured technical bench, insisting the team is fully committed to bringing joy back to supporters ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The new technical direction comes after the departure of former head coach Otto Addo in March, following back-to-back friendly defeats against Austria national football team and Germany national football team. Veteran tactician Carlos Queiroz was subsequently appointed to lead the Black Stars into the World Cup.
Ghana face a difficult challenge at the tournament after being placed in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team in the competition which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking during an appearance on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sá explained that the coaching staff are concentrating on building togetherness and ensuring the players are fully prepared for the task ahead.
“We are here to do our best and make Ghanaians happy. If Carlos does his job, there is none better than him,” the South African said.
“We will pick our targets as they come. If our players play to their abilities, we have a realistic chance to progress,” he added.
As part of preparations for the tournament, the Black Stars are scheduled to play international friendlies against Mexico national football team on May 22 and Wales national football team on June 2.
Ghana will open their World Cup journey against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before taking on England at the Boston Stadium on June 23. Their final group encounter will be against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on June 27.
After disappointing exits in the group stages of both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, the Black Stars will be eager to produce a stronger performance and re-establish themselves among the top teams on the global stage in 2026.
