Julien Alfred, the World Indoor 60m champion and Olympic 100m gold medallist has added another accolade to her illustrious career.
The 23-year-old track star from Ciceron was named Saint Lucia’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2024 during the Saint Lucia Athletics Association’s (SLAA) annual Awards Evening held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground this past weekend.
Alfred, who claimed this prestigious title for the fifth time since 2015, capped off a remarkable year that saw her shine on the global stage. Her achievements were celebrated alongside other outstanding athletes, coaches, and administrators, as the SLAA recognized excellence under the theme Elevating Excellence: Celebrating the Spirit of Athletics.
Michael Joseph, who also competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was named Male Athlete of the Year, while Denzel Phillip, a former CARIFTA throws medallist, was honoured as Junior Male Athlete of the Year. CARIFTA pole vault champion Naya Jules took home the Junior Female Athlete of the Year award. Sprinter Ricardo Mann and Jady Emmanuel were named Juvenile Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively.
The event also highlighted contributions to the sport beyond the track. Jason Sayers, Marbeq Edgar, Neville Dupre, and Michael Biscette were recognized for advancing road running locally and regionally. Cuthbert Modeste earned Coach of the Year honours, while Wayne Rameau was named Technical Official of the Year. Administrator of the Year went to Brendaline Descarte, and Theodore Henry Bailey received the Long Service Award for his decades of contributions as a coach, administrator, and technical official.
