Former Barcelona and Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic has tipped Manchester United to overcome Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday’s highly anticipated UEFA Europa League final.

Rakitic, who twice lifted the Europa League trophy with Sevilla, believes United’s turbulent season could be the very fuel they need to clinch European silverware. Speaking to 3Sports via La Liga media, the 37-year-old Croatian emphasized the high stakes for both clubs.

“It’s like a Champions League final,” Rakitic said. “These are two teams that know each other well. In theory, both have had seasons to forget, and this is the last chance for either side to win something.”

Rakitic views Manchester United as slight favorites despite their struggles this season. “For me, I think Manchester United are slightly ahead. A win would help with everything happening around the club,” he added, referencing the internal turmoil and underwhelming performances that have plagued the Red Devils.

However, the Croatian midfielder did not underestimate the challenge Spurs pose. Tottenham have already beaten United three times this season, and Rakitic acknowledged their hunger for silverware.

“It’s also a very important game for Spurs. I expect a very physical, intense match because there’s so much at stake for both teams. It’s going to be fascinating.”

The final will be played at the iconic San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, where Manchester United recently recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Athletic Club in the semi-final first leg. That result brought them one step closer to claiming their first European title in eight years.

For Spurs, the final represents a golden opportunity to end a 17-year trophy drought — their last major title being the League Cup in 2008.

“They’re lucky to play in one of the best stadiums in Europe,” Rakitic said. “I’m a big fan of San Mamés. It’s going to be a very interesting atmosphere.”

With both clubs languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League, Wednesday night’s clash carries extra significance. The winner not only secures the prestigious Europa League title but also guarantees a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

“The teams will be cautious — they know this game could define their entire season,” Rakitic concluded.

The final kicks off Wednesday night in Bilbao, promising drama, passion, and a shot at redemption for two struggling English giants.
