Hasaacas Ladies etched their name once again into Ghana women’s football history after emerging champions of the 2025/26 Women’s FA Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Army Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
The much-anticipated final lived up to expectations as both sides battled fiercely throughout regulation and extra time before Hasaacas Ladies eventually triumphed 5-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.
Heading into the final, Hasaacas Ladies were determined to finish the season on a positive note after suffering heartbreak in the Women’s Premier League final against Ampem Darkoa Ladies a month earlier. Army Ladies were equally motivated, hoping to secure silverware after narrowly missing out on a place in the league final.
The opening stages of the game saw both teams create promising opportunities, but wastefulness in front of goal and solid defensive displays kept the scoreline level at halftime. The intensity of the match continued in the second half as both teams pushed relentlessly for the breakthrough.
Hasaacas finally found the opener in the 87th minute through substitute Linda Epo, who calmly finished to spark celebrations among the Takoradi-based supporters.
However, the lead lasted only two minutes as Esther Asamoah Yiadom once again proved her importance for Army Ladies. The forward struck her seventh goal of the tournament in the 89th minute to restore parity and force the contest into extra time
Despite several attempts from both sides during the additional 30 minutes, neither team could find the winning goal, sending the final into a nerve-racking penalty shootout.
Hasaacas Ladies displayed remarkable composure from the spot, converting all five of their penalties. Army Ladies managed to score three of their four attempts but missed one crucial kick, handing the advantage to Hasaacas and ultimately sealing the title for the Western Region giants.
The triumph marks Hasaacas Ladies’ second Women’s FA Cup crown, with their first success coming during the memorable 2020/21 campaign. The victory also secured a historic achievement for head coach Raymond Fenny, who became the first coach to win the competition in back-to-back seasons.
For Hasaacas Ladies, the victory serves as a fitting response to their league disappointment and further strengthens their reputation as one of the dominant forces in Ghana women’s football.
