Bristish most accomplished female sprinter of all time – Dina Asher-Smith may not have performed to perfection in the just ended 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, but the 28yr old sprinter did not take long to bounce back having ran 10.88 seconds to win the women’s 100m in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday.
Asher-Smith journey [100m] at the last Olympics could only see her travel to the semi-finals after finishing fifth having failed to hit the required speed to qualify her for the final.
She crossed the finish line in a disappointing 11.10 seconds, and could not hide her frustrations in an interview with the B.B.C soon after the race:
“I’m just disappointed because I’m in great shape and have been in great shape all season, I fully expected to make that final, the race wasn’t even fast.

“I know I’m in a lot better shape than that…yeah,” she stressed.
But, the story was however different on Thursday for Asher-Smith who took control from 30m and sped ahead of Tamari Davis of the United States, who ran 10.97 seconds, and home favourite – Mujinga Kambundji who finished in 11.06 seconds.
“After the Olympics I took some time to refocus and now I’m just enjoying running, feeling fit and injury free,” said Asher-Smith, who was close to her UK record of 10.83 despite running into a slight headwind.
“I’m excited to push on to the two next meets in Silesia and Zurich where the track and atmosphere were amazing. Plus there’s always chocolate!”
