It’s about 394 days to go until the Commonwealth Games return to Scotland, anticipation is building across the cycling community in Wales. Beicio Cymru is proud to publish our Nomination Policy for Glasgow 2026 — outlining how we’ll select athletes to be nominated for Team Wales.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games mark a return to Glasgow, the city that hosted a hugely successful edition of the Games in 2014. This time, the event brings a refreshed model focused on sustainability, existing infrastructure, and innovative funding — delivering a global stage with a smaller environmental footprint.

For Welsh track riders, it’s a major opportunity to represent their country at a high-profile, multi-sport event close to home. As the national governing body for cycling in Wales, Beicio Cymru is committed to ensuring a transparent and robust nomination process that supports athlete development and delivers medal-winning performances.

What’s in the Nomination Policy?

Our nomination policy, developed in partnership with Commonwealth Games Wales (CGW), sets out:

A. The eligibility requirements for athletes.

B. The qualification standards for consideration.

C. The key performance events and timeframe (1 January 2025 – 13 May 2026).

D. The nomination and appeals process.

E. How Beicio Cymru will use performance data, professional judgement, and a fair review process to determine nominations.

To be eligible for nomination, athletes must demonstrate the potential to achieve a top-six finish in their event — or show exceptional promise for future Games. Performance across key international and national events will be closely considered, along with evidence of form, development, and team composition.

Final selection decisions rest with CGW, with Beicio Cymru providing nominations for consideration by the CGW selection committee.

Timeline and Next Steps

The performances in key events selection window runs from 1 January 2025 to 13 May 2026. Nominations will be finalised in May 2026, with athletes notified of the outcome shortly after.

We encourage all eligible riders with Commonwealth Games aspirations to familiarise themselves with the nomination policy and speak with our performance team about their goals and progress.
