2024 Summer Olympics men’s 100m silver medallist – Kishane Thompson has opened his 2025 season with a sterler performance having won the final of the 60m race at the Central Hurdles, Relays & Field Events Meet at the GC Foster College in St. Catherine on Saturday, January 18.
As has become customary of him, the Mitchell Town born sprinter [Thompson], starting in lane 4 took off from the blocks with a bullet speed to power away from his compatriots crossing the finish line in 6.48 seconds, smashing his previous personal best of 6.67 over the distance.
Thompson’s MVP Track Club teammates Nishion Ebanks and 2023 National 100m champion Rohan Watson were second [6.54], and third in [6.54] respectively.
Thompson’s time puts him fifth on the all-time list for Jamaica in the event behind; Ackeem Blake [6.42], Asafa Powell [6.44], Yohan Blake [6.45] and Lerone Clarke [6.47].
Coached by the renowned Stephen Francis, Kishane Thompson became the fastest man on earth leading to the 2024 Olympic Games after coasting 9.77 seconds in the 100m dash to win the Jamaican Trials.
He, however, won silver behind Noah Lyles of the United State of America in the men’s 100m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics with the exact same time of 9.79 seconds, with Lyles ultimately awarded the gold medal by a margin of five-thousandths of a second after a photo finish.
